Review of Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle
Last Christmas we decided to give to our twin Granddaughters aged 21/2 Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycles as our special christmas gift. They were just growing out of the Fisher-Price Rock, Roll ‘n Ride Trike XLand the Fisher-Price Bright Beginnings Ready Steady Ride-On Trike that had been such great ride on toys for them.
The girls had been introduced to tricycles at a playgroup that they attended. They also had tried out various tricycles at friends’ homes. So when trying to find a suitable tricycle for them we had some ideas of what we wanted. We wanted the trikes to be sturdy and to be able to grow with them.
We started by looking at our local retail stores. It is amazing how many badly make tricycles we found. Like “oldies” that we are, we were wishing for the good old days when things were made to be sturdy.
Then we turned to Amzon.com one of our favorite places to shop. Not only does Amazon have a great variety from which to choose plus great prices they also have customer reviews. These reviews allowed us to see what other parents and grandparents had to say about these choices. After looking them all over we choose the Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle -Pink. I wonder if it was the retro look of these tricycles or that they were pink, the girls’ favorite color that swayed our decision. For boys or girls who are not so pink crazy the Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle is available in red. After a year this is what we think of them.
Quality of Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle
The Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycles are made of sturdy steel construction with chrome handlebars and wheel fender and a two-tier step up rear step. Real rubber tires not plastic with durable steel spiked wheels make them able to withstand some serious miles of riding (even if it is only on the driveway).
There is a controlled steering radius to prevent falls. However I must say that we have had a couple of falls when one of the girls tried to turn too sharply. It is a bit of a learning lesson for them. The handlebars or the neck bolt not being tight enough may also have caused it. On one of the trikes these have been adjusted.
The tricycles come with real metal bells that have very realistic rings to them. The ring is one you will recognize from your childhood. Luckily for the adults the bells are a bit stiff so are not ringing and ringing.
The seat is adjustable as are the handlebars ensuring that the trike will grow with the girls. The two-step deck makes it easy for them to climb up upon.
This Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle won Parents Choice Classic Award, Parents Guide to Children’s Media Award, The National parenting Centers Seal of Approval.
Kid Friendly Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle
Right from the delighted faces Christmas morning, our girls have loved their Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycles. It took a little time for them to learn how to pedal but once that skill was learned there has been no stopping them.
They ride them individually but they also hop on the back of the dual step deck and ride on their sister’s trike. It speaks to the sturdiness of the Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycles that our older Grandchildren sometimes use the rear deck to use the tricycles like scooters. Their extra weight appears to be easily born by the trikes.
So far in just under a year there have been hours of fun with these Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycles. With the ability to adjust the seat and handle bars I think that we will see several more years of enjoyable riding from these tricycles.

Assembly of the Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle
The Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle does take some assembly. I would not say that my husband and I are very handy but we were able to handle putting together both tricycles in approximately an hour. It went reasonably smoothly considering out lack of skills. We had a slight problem with one of the tricycles in not being able to get the capped properly – it is a little askew. Funnily enough the other one went on smoothly.
We have had to adjust both the handlebars and the seat to keep it aligned with the wheel on one of the tricycles.
What Other Are Saying About the Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle
We have been thrilled with theRadio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycles that our Granddaughters received last Christmas. We are not the only ones who love these retro tricycles. They currently have a 4.25 of 5 stars on Amazon.com. For the pink one they are #4 in Best Selling Tricycles and the red one is #2. This is what other parents and Grandparents had to say about these trikes.
“I bought this for my grand daughters’ 3rd birthday and it is a huge hit! She is definitely a girly-girl and is really into pink, so this hot-pink tricycle really hit a home run. The tricycle was very easy to assemble as is very, very sturdy. With the adjustable seat and handle bars and the fact that it has a tubular steel frame and rubber tires rather than plastic, we expect this to last grand daughter #1 through to the point where she needs a two wheeler and it should still be going strong when grand daughter #2 (born last November) is ready for her first tricycle.”
“This Radio Flyer tricycle is well made and was exactly what we were looking for! Our 15 month granddaughter took off on it as soon as she saw it under the Christmas tree and hasn’t stopped since. BUT, don’t forget the helmet! She took a dive as soon as we got out on the pavement. Glad she had her helmet on! We liked the classic style of the dual deck, and it makes it easier to get on & off.”
“I was extremely satisfied with the durability of this product. The pink color, streamers, and bell excited my granddaughter. I wish I had purchased the wood blocks for the pedals; she had a rough time reaching them for a few weeks. The riding step on the back makes it easier to help push her past bumps on the road. And it is fun to give her sister a ride, too.”
“For my daughters birthday, me and my wife decided to get this trike for her. The moment she saw it, her eyes opened wide and smile super big. The material is not flimsy and was very easy to put together. It was worth the money to get this one instead of one of the plastic ones. It will definitely last for a long time. This trike will be going to her younger sister when she is of age and I’m sure it will be running just as good as it is now.”
“Very solid tricycle and my almost four year old daughter loves this thing, rides it for hours. I love the little bell and the tassles on the end of the handlebars too. I would recommend this over the cheap plastic trikes any day.”
Where to Purchase the Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycle
When we shopped for these Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycles we were initially disappointed in what we found on the market. There were tricycles that were quite small so would have to be replaced in a short time as the girls grew. Others were too big so there was no way that they would be able to handle them. Many had lots of plastic in their construction. We were thrilled when we found the Radio Flyer Classic Dual Deck Tricycles on Amazon.com and PINK ones too! We have become great fans of dealing with Amazon. If things are not right the customer service is very responsive. We also like the idea that many products ship with FREE with Super Saver Shipping.
