Parent Review of the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game

With our busy lifestyle, I feel like I never get enough time with my boys. My husband is constantly at work and my two boys seem to always be involved in different sports. When everyone is able to be together, however, my boys are only interested in playing video games. Wanting to spend more time together as a family, I declared that we needed to have a family game night, something that has been successful with many of my friends. While it worked well for the first two weeks, we quickly found that we had very few games that everyone in my family enjoyed! Wanting to find something that we could play as a family, I decided to spend some time looking online, hoping to find other popular board games my kids would love.

While looking at, I found dozens of games that looked interesting, only to find that my boys quickly became bored with them. It wasn’t until my husband started looking at popular toys that we found the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game. Since my children loved playing the popular video game, it seemed like a win-win situation for all of us when it came to finding a cute and challenging game for the whole family. Being certain my boys would love this game, I purchased it and hid it on our game shelf, wondering what the boys would think. After having this game for two months, here is what my family thinks of the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game.

Assembly of Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game

Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game

When we first took the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game out of the box; we were worried that our children would have difficulty building this game. Having played the game on my husband’s tablet, my children were excited to start playing this game. While I expected the building to be messy and discouraging, it was actually something my children quite enjoyed. Before you can play, children are to pick one of four level cards, ranging in different difficulty levels. Players are then to build the level exactly as the card says to make sure that the mission goes successful. At the higher levels, players are able to freelance the level, building their own unique levels that incorporate certain skills and difficulty items specified by the card.

I had read some reviews online for the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game saying that some boys were getting quickly bored with the game after twenty minutes, especially with how long it took to build each of the levels. If most children are anything like my boys, they are able to build each of the missions within five to fifteen minutes, depending on if they were goofing off or seriously building. Compared to most family games, I can say the set up time is about average and not difficult at all for impatient boys.

Game Play of Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game

Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game
Having played the original Angry Birds game, I was amused the first time I saw the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game set up. Looking at the table, you could see that the board game truly did look the video game. The main difference is the fact that it is more hands out and helps children understand more about angles and some simple math. My boys especially love being able to play angry birds in real life, and I think they enjoy being able to make birds fly around the house without getting in trouble!

The objects of the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game is to get revenge again the green pigs who are stealing eggs. Just like in the video game, you are to launch birds at the structures until you have knocked over each of the pigs. In this exciting game, kids and parents are able to build, launch and destroy with this popular game. The first person to have 100 points wins, allowing children to compete in teams of one to four people. Since my boys are prone to rough housing during the game, I recommend that you play with an adult close by. While the birds are not very large, they can fly quite far while kids are learning how to use the sling shot.

Kid Friendly Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game

Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game
Over the past few years, I had stopped buying board games, especially seeing most of them covered in dust. With the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game, my children are for the first time looking forward to playing a board game as a family. My boys are happy to even play this game alone, allowing them to think creatively as they try to destroy the evil green pigs! The only problem I have had with this board game is the fact that it is hard to get my kids to stop playing! They love to build these missions and see who can knock down all the blocks first.

Since the game is very free form, we have even added some of our own family rules. We have mixed up some of the four levels, allowing all of us to have a challenge with the sling shot. With the highest level cards, we do recommend having an adult build these levels. While the whole family can try to knock them over, it takes some skill to properly build some of the higher missions. Since it has my kids and husband wanting to play the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game as a family, I consider it a major success!

What Others Have to Say About Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game

Before the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game, my boys had very little interest in playing board games. If it was not a video game, they had no interest playing it, especially if it meant they had to actually think through the game. Due to the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game, we now have a family game night, something that I have wanted for quite some time! We aren’t the only family who has had a great time playing the Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game. Currently, this Angry Birds board game has 4.3 out of 5 stars on, having been at the 2nd and 3rd spot of different game lists on Amazon. “My 4 year old is obsessed with Angry Birds. I didn’t like the idea of him spending so much time playing a video game, so this was the perfect alternative. And it’s something we can do together as a family. So much fun!”

“We got the game and I immediately set it up with my 15 year old grandson (he indulges Gramma) soon his mother was playing too. We laughed and talked about how much fun we were having — soon my son (44) joined and 16 year old granddaughter played too. I have taken it to work and lunch time has become Angry Bird Haven ….This is the BEST investment in fun I have made in a LOOOOONG time!!”

“I Love , love , love Angry Birds Anything!!! My 5 yr old daughter & I played with it for hours. I was sooo excited when I saw that there was even a real game. I have Angry Birds on my cell phone as well as my laptop. Now I have a tangible game that I can put my hands on too. It takes some getting use to but I love the challenge of it. Next, I’m going to buy all of the plush birds and piggies too…I don’t think that the guys at Rovio knew that it would be such a success. Thanx to all, now I’ve gotta get back to my game…”

“My son is 5 and loves the angry birds game on the tablet and computer etc. I bought this because he loves to build things and create his own levels. He loves this game and places with it every single day. When we bring it down the shore the kids don’t do anything but play this game. Its durable and a lot of fun for the kids!!!”

“While Angry Birds is very fun in it’s original format, it’s as much if not more fun when played in a more physical form! I love flinging tiny birds at blocks and pigs. I would recommend this for anyone who’s a fan of the Angry Birds.”
