Blush Sangria

Recipe for Blush Sangria

We love sangria. It is so easy to drink. This Blush Sangria is nice if you are having friends in for a light meal or just for appetizers. We often double or triple this recipe. It is not necessary to increase the quantity for the marinate. Sip carefully as it is so good it is easy to consume too much!

INGREDIENTS for Blush Sangria

  • 10 Coriander Seeds 10
  • 6 Cardamom Pods 6
  • 3 strips Orange Rind 3
  • 2 slices Gingerroot, finely chopped 2
  • 1 cup Water 250 ml
  • Ice Cubes
  • 1 bottle Blush or Red Wine 750ml

Marinated Grapes and Melon:

  • 1 lb Seedless Green Grapes 500 g
  • 4 cups Spanish or Honeydew Melon Balls (about half a melon)
  • ¼ cup Liquid Honey 50 ml
  • ¼ cup Cognac, Brandy or Sherry 50 ml
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice 5 ml

METHOD for Blush Sangria

In small saucepan, crush coriander seeds and cardamom pods. Add orange rind, ginger, water and sugar. Stir until sugar has dissolved. Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Let cool to room temperature. Strain; refrigerate until well chilled.

Marinated Grapes and Melon: In large bowl, combine grapes and melon; toss with honey, cognac and lemon juice. Chill at least 4 hours or overnight, stirring occasionally.

At serving time, pour spiced mixture into tall pitcher filled with ice; add wine. Let guests spoon Marinated Grapes and Melon into large wine glasses and fill with wine mixture. Makes 8 servings.
